Chief of Operations of the French Joint Staff visited IRINI OHQ
On Thursday, 26th January, the Chief of Operations of the French Joint Staff, Vice Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, visited EUNAVFOR MED IRINI Operation Headquarters (OHQ) in Rome and was welcomed by IRINI’s Operation Commander, Rear Admiral Stefano Turchetto.
Vice Admiral Vaujour congratulated Operattion Commander for the success of the Operation, and in particular for the excellent results of the last months, when IRINI prevented two attempted violations by sea of the UN arms embargo on Libya. “You are representing the credibility of the EU” said the French Admiral, sharing his vision on the Libyan crisis and the future challenges and opportunities for the European Union, in the Mediterranean and beyond.
At the end of the visit, VADM Vaujour met all the French personnel deployed at the OHQ led by, Rear Admiral Jean de Muizon, Operation IRINI Deputy Commander. The visit reaffirmed the French commitment to the operation, currently counting on 23 EU member states supporting IRINI with personnel, aircrafts and naval units.
