ITS MOROSINI, the flagship of Operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI, partnered with the Hellenic Navy to join an exercise

ITS MOROSINI, the flagship of EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI, participated in an exercise near Karavia Island in Greece, in coordination with the Hellenic Navy’s MH-60R helicopter.
Such challenging and highly complex activities are an absolute vital for the consolidation and training of current operational and procedural protocols, and this exercise in particular provided a valuable training opportunity for ITS MOROSINI staff and the Italian Navy’s San Marco Brigade.
The planned exercises reaffirm that the naval forces of EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI maintain a state of constant and full readiness, an essential condition for the effective execution of the Operation’s EU mandate. This includes the successful interception and inspection of merchant vessels suspected of involvement in illicit arms trafficking to Libya, the prevention of unlawful oil exports, the disruption of human smuggling networks, the delivery of capacity-building and training support to Libyan institutions, and the enhancement of Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) to safeguard EU interests, particularly the protection of critical underwater infrastructure.
As part of this activity, the cooperation with the Hellenic Navy was another clear sign of interoperability between EU Nations and an excellent example of multinational capacity building and effectiveness.
